Please note: the Fears Brunswick 40 'Odyssey Edition' will be shipping from late-July 2025 once Angus Collins has completed his world record attempt.
The Fears Brunswick 40 'Odyssey Edition' is a unique timepiece made to commemorate the Great British Odyssey and is a special limited-edition version taking design cues and direct inspiration from the EXPERIMENTAL 01 watch that Angus Collins will be wearing during his Great British Odyssey (GBO) challenge of which Fears are the official timekeeping partner.
A portion of each Brunswick 40 'Odyssey Edition' sale will be donated to James' Place, the charity partner of GBO that saves the lives of men in suicidal crisis.
Graceful and complex, the curvaceous Brunswick 40 takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924. This sportier iteration of the Brunswick is the perfect all-round watch, taking you from beach to boardroom with ease.
The Brunswick 40’s elegant yet sporty 40mm cushion-shaped case has no flat surfaces. The case’s glancing curves are machined from 316L stainless steel, to a level usually reserved for precious metals. The depth of the polish along with the hand grained finish applied to the top of the case’s corners showcase the sophistication of the machinery and the skill of the operator.
Complementing the case is our bespoke ‘onion’-shaped winding screw down crown, signed with the Fears Cypher. Screwed into the case, the crown’s fine grooves catch the light, adding a touch of radiance to the edge of the case.
Built with uprated proportions, the Brunswick 40 is 150m water resistant (15 ATM), allowing it to be swum in when the crown is screwed all the way in.
The Brunswick 40 'Odyssey Edition' dial shares the layout, special texture and design with EXPERIMENTAL 01 but with an elevated degree of elegance.
Expertly made in Germany, the textured surface of the dial is on two levels, both of which are in a practical yet elegant anti-glare white matte lacquer finish. The minute track and Fears name are printed in black, while the 1/4 hour minutes are picked out in an elegant deep red.
The hand-applied numerals (where the 12, 3, 6 and 9 hour markers are realised in numerical form with the remainder as indices) are milled from a block of brass before being diamond polished, coated in Fears Blue PVD and then filled with X1-grade Super-LumiNova® (that emits a cool blue once charged).
The Brunswick 40 'Odyssey Edition' distinctive ‘Fears’-shaped hands are milled from solid brass and polished with a diamond tipped tool. This results in a highly polished surface that catches the light, giving excellent legibility in low-light conditions.
These hands are finished in a coating of Fears Blue PVD (that perfectly matches the polished 3D numerals) and then filled with the same X1-Grade Super-LumiNova® as the applied indices.
Whilst in low-light conditions, the bright X1-Grade lume (a first for a Brunswick 40 entering the Fears core collection) glows with a cool blue colour colour and stays charged throughout the night - making for the perfect travelling companion.
The Brunswick 40 is powered by a customised Swiss-made, automatic La Joux-Perret G101 movement (that has had the date function removed). Winding itself when worn on the wrist this movement boasts a generous power reserve of 68 hours and a decorated winding rotor.
The Brunswick 40 'Odyssey Edition' will come as a package with two straps included;
Fears Blue Sailcloth FKM
The main strap is another innovation from Delugs in the form of an FKM rubber strap in signature Fears Blue (finished with a matching white contrast stitch) moulded to imitate the look of sailcloth and leaning in to the sportier aesthetic of this new Brunswick 40 layout.
The application of FKM rubber retains the classic aesthetic of sailcloth whilst modernising the feel and durability which results in a strap that is iconic, contemporary and supremely comfortable.
Lined in a waterproof rubber and fastened with a new Fears x Delugs leaf-spring deployant clasp and finished with Fears' bespoke pin buckle (featuring the Fears Cypher).
MN™ Erika's Originals - Elasticated Textile
The secondary strap is an exact replica of the strap used by Angus on his EXPERIMENTAL 01 which is a custom MN™ Erika's Originals elasticated strap in a bold and striking orange.
This Erika's Originals MN™ strap is the epitome of utilitarian and directly inspired by the divers of the MN (Marine Nationale, aka the French Navy) who used the elastic braid from their military parachutes to create straps for their dive watches.
The material itself is a very high-grade elasticated nylon (dyed in Switzerland) and are made in their Valencia atelier and is fastened using satinised hardware that has been engraved with the GBO emblem and Fears Cypher.
Bracelet
The Brunswick 40 'Odyssey Edition' is also compatible with our bespoke 5-link stainless steel bracelet which can be purchased separately here.
Customise
You can customise your Brunswick 40 with any strap designed for a 20mm lug width, including any strap from our range, which you can easily fit yourself without tools.
Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved between the lugs at 12 o’clock, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.
Each Brunswick 40 'Odyssey Edition' is fitted with a commemorative caseback featuring a detailed engraving of the British mainland and charting the route Angus will row during his world record attempt.
Each caseback displays the edition number (out of 100) which will match the owners' card that accompanies each watch.
All Fears watches are presented in a slim, rectangular, wooden box made of solid ash and stained in our bespoke shade of blue. This luxury box was inspired by traditional slim Fears watch boxes used in the past, in which the watch lies flat. Recognising the company's heritage, we called this box the Amos, after the names of both the 2nd and 3rd Managing Directors.
The top of the box is discreetly engraved with the Fears logo and features a gentle bevel around its edges, whilst the interior is lined in genuine cream suede. The box is secured by a polished chrome push button, keeping your watch safe and secure.
