Hand built in Britain.
Graceful and complex, the curvaceous Brunswick 40 takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924. This sportier iteration of the Brunswick is the perfect all-round watch, taking you from beach to boardroom with ease.
The Brunswick 40’s elegant yet sporty 40 mm cushion-shaped case has no flat surfaces. The case’s glancing curves are machined from 316L stainless steel, to a level usually reserved for precious metals. The depth of the polish along with the hand grained finish applied to the top of the case’s corners showcase the sophistication of the machinery and the skill of the operator.
Complementing the case is our bespoke ‘onion’-shaped winding screw down crown, signed with the Fears Cypher. Screwed into the case, the crown’s fine grooves catch the light, adding a touch of radiance to the edge of the case.
Built with uprated proportions, the Brunswick 40 is 150m water resistant, allowing it to be swum in when the crown is screwed all the way in.
The Brunswick 40 'Aurora' comes with the option of either:
The Brunswick 40 'Aurora' is the first mother of pearl dial to appear on a Fears watch in our 177-year history. Each dial is crafted from two pieces of Pinctada Maxima (mother of pearl from the rarest oyster pearl shells) with each section hand-tinted on its underside to achieve a special and unique shade of blue that highlights the natural iridescence of the material.
Expertly made in Germany, the surface of the dial is on two levels cut to different heights (a subtle difference that creates a huge distinction in how the light plays with the dial). These dials are painstakingly formed by hand using mother of pearl originating from some of the worlds highest quality, rarest and most sought-after pearl oysters.
The hand-applied numerals are milled from a block of brass before being diamond polished and then coated in rhodium. These numerals are realised in our custom ‘Edwin’ typeface, specially designed for Fears by our horological typographer and inspired by the many different typefaces the company has used throughout its history.
Please note
Due the nature of these dials each is entirely unique and will vary slightly from the images shown. The Managing Director has personally checked all the mother of pearl dials we use to ensure each maintains the same level of beauty and brilliant in their natural iridescence.
The Brunswick 40 'Aurora's distinctive ‘Fears’-shaped hands are milled from solid brass with a bevel cut down the centre using a diamond tool. This results in a highly polished surface that catches the light, giving excellent legibility in low-light conditions. These hands are finished with a coating of rhodium that perfectly matches the polished 3D numerals.
The Brunswick 40 is powered by a customised Swiss-made, automatic La Joux-Perret G101 movement (that has had the date function removed). Winding itself when worn on the wrist this movement boasts a generous power reserve of 68 hours and a decorated winding rotor.
The Brunswick 40 'Aurora' is offered on a beautiful Aegean Blue Alcantara® strap (a cutting-edge material developed in Italy that offers unrivalled aesthetic, technical and tactile qualities), that perfectly compliments the rich blue of the discs of mother of pearl used for the dial.
Alcantara® is extremely soft to touch and provides a luxurious feel - it has a similar feel to the nap of suede but is considerably harder-wearing with a supple feel. Whilst similar to suede, it is far more hard-wearing (and crucially, is water-resistant) and whilst commonly found in the interior of luxury sports cars it offers excellent properties as a watch strap.
The strap is lined in a premium anti-allergenic calf leather and embossed with both our logo and ‘Handmade in Belgium’ - this is both soft and comfortable and will extend the lifetime of your strap. The strap is fitted with a stainless steel pin buckle that is subtly engraved with our ‘Fears’ logo.

The perfect fit!
When you purchase a Brunswick 40 we can adjust the bracelet size for you before sending it. Please contact us by email with your order number and wrist size and we’ll do the rest. We will provide any spare links in an envelope with your watch.
Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved between the lugs at 12 o’clock, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.
All Fears watches are presented in a slim, rectangular, wooden box made of solid ash and stained in our bespoke shade of blue. This luxury box was inspired by traditional slim Fears watch boxes used in the past, in which the watch lies flat. Recognising the company's heritage, we called this box the Amos, after the names of both the 2nd and 3rd Managing Directors.
The top of the box is discreetly engraved with the Fears logo and features a gentle bevel around its edges, whilst the interior is lined in genuine cream suede. The box is secured by a polished chrome push button, keeping your watch safe and secure.
